Undergraduate researcher Harsh Desai presented his poster, “Cross-Continental Electricity Price Prediction Using Quantum AI,” at the SUNY AI Symposium 2026: Scaling the New York AI Innovation Ecosystem, hosted by Stony Brook University. The research was conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Sayed Mohsin Reza with co-author Dr. Md Habib Ullah, and investigated the use of hybrid quantum-classical artificial intelligence models for forecasting day-ahead electricity prices across energy markets in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania.

The project combined Variational Quantum Circuits (VQC) with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to develop a Quantum AI forecasting framework capable of improving prediction accuracy and stability compared to traditional machine learning approaches. The work demonstrates the potential of quantum-enhanced AI methods for addressing complex challenges in electricity market analytics and energy decision-making.
Supported by the AI Frontiers REU Program and the Penn State Harrisburg Office of Research and Outreach, the project provided valuable undergraduate research experience while contributing to emerging research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and energy systems.
